I’m Eric Lee. I run Sonsu Research as a personal research and trading project while completing my undergraduate studies at Columbia University, where I’m pursuing a Bachelors of Science in Operations Research: Financial Engineering with minors in Artificial Intelligence and Psychology.
I grew up across three Asian economies — born in Korea, lived in Malaysia, spent high school in Bangladesh. Now, I am based in New York City. This experience gave me a front-row view of how capital actually moves across the world. I watched countries grow at very different rates depending on who was deploying capital and where. I got interested in markets because they’re the place where all of those flows ultimately get priced and where the action takes place.
I chose Financial Engineering because the quantitative framing of markets is essential to know to get a technical grasp of the markets. I added a double minor in AI and Psychology because I’m interested in how machines model markets and how humans (other market participants, and more importantly, myself) actually make decisions in them. I want to deepen my knowledge of investing and build a robust ability to make high-level decisions on my own time through Sonsu Research. I want to learn the craft of pricing risk and forming views, and in the long term, I aspire to build a career in the public markets.
I am fluent in Korean and English and have dabbled in learning Mandarin Chinese and Spanish at an elementary level. I am actively learning French at the moment!
When I’m not working on this project, I play basketball, listen to jazz music, go for a run, play the saxophone, work out, or play chess.
